Can you hand wash a wedding dress?
My wedding dresses is all sweaty from my wearing it in 95 degree weather. I took it to the cleaners, and they said it can suffer damages AND it'll cost $150-200 for dry cleaning. Personally, I'd rather just store the dress for the rest of it's life all sweaty, but I'm supposed to wear it at our coming home wedding reception on Saturday. Is it possible to hand wash my dress? Any tips for cleaning otherwise? It's made of taffeta, with a lace up bodice. Thanks!

Yes! Always do a sample test first of the material, but i have successfully washed a delustered satin dress and a crushed taffeta dress. Both had lace and crystal beadwork. I hand washed both dresses in a bathtub filled with cold water. Add a small amount of detergent to the water ensuring its all mixed and submerge the dress. Gently move it about and let soak for up to 8 hours for stubborn stains. Rinse thoroughly. Both dresses came up beautifully, like new. Dry cleaning never gives the same result. I never had to iron them either, as the weight of the satin pulled itself into shape on a hanger and the crushed taffeta, as the name suggests had a crushed look anyway :)
